The cause of acid reflux is still very much so unknown. Though factors that are known to make a contribution to the illness include : stress, unsatisfactory diet, and poor lifestyle decisions. If another window of the main attributing factors to acid reflux disease.

We are able to start to implement changes in our overall lifestyle to reduce the results of acid reflux illness. The concentration on going well at this time however , is going to be only in the undeniable fact that having a correct diet is essential if you are compelled to live with acid reflux disease. With that having been said, should know that tiny changes in your dietary habits will cause the biggest changes to your angina later.

To start you should first always start with the small things, implement new things extremely slowly into your diet plans rather than all at the same time. Making drastic changes to your diet will cause you to be rather more likely to stray from your dietary plans, while making tiny changes will make you rather more likely to make permanent changes in your life. One very small thing that you can do which will have huge impact on your acid reflux is just eating a touch less.

Studies have demonstrated that the most important factor that causes you heartburn when you have acid reflux is due to over eating. So by simply limiting yourself, particularly in the afternoon to evening area, you can see big changes in the quality of the sleep that you get. Another tip, if you're having an issue at night with acid reflux disease is to eat a tiny dry break such as two or 3 crackers. Right before bed, and elevating your head, with perhaps 1 or 2 more pillows can greatly increase the standard of your sleep at night.

If your acid reflux is under control with just cutting down on some eating then congratulations. You should be just fine with your present diet. However , many of us need to research what we are eating and cut something out fully. For example fat heavy, spicy, caffeinated and alcohol may cause your gut to supply lots more acid to digest it. So cutting down or moving any of those foods can also help your acid reflux illness diet.

This is particularly important for if you start cutting out food groups, you do not want to go back and start binging on greasy and greasy foods, because you cut them out too fast and could not fight the desire.

If you have acid reflux disease, you may be aware of many possible medicines and lifestyle changes that can help you relieve your symptoms. One of these is to consume an acid reflux disease diet. This will not just aid you to stop and soothe the symptoms of acid reflux disease, but will also help in improving your overall health, as the suggestions in any acid reflux disease diet are extremely valuable to the body in general. You can also find that other digestive and health illnesses are improved as a derivative of the acid reflux disease diet, which makes it an excellent plan to try out for one or two reasons.

The Easy Way to Plan Your Acid Reflux Disease Diet

The first step is to stop eating foods that clearly make the symptoms worse. Examples of these are all foods that are very spicy, or contain a lot of pepper. Any foods, for example certain veg and fruits, that have a tendency to cause you gas will also affect your acid reflux. All these should be steered clear of when making an attempt to reduce acid reflux disease. You must concentrate on just what you cut out of your acid reflux illness diet as you don't want to avoid all veg, but only the ones that cause you further pain.

To come up with your own acid reflux illness diet, notice what foods make your acid reflux worse, and try cutting them out. Do replace them with something of equal value nutritionally unless naturally they were bad for you in the 1st place! Junking alcohol, as an example, is very helpful in an acid reflux disease diet. Alcohol can always make acid reflux symptoms worse, as it has a tendency to relax the esophageal sphincter, permitting even more stomach acids to reflux into the esophagus.

Too you can try simply changing the timing of your meals beneficial. Many people affected by acid reflux find that eating a couple of tiny meals rather than three huge ones makes the stomach produce less acid after eating each meal, which helps cut the symptoms.

An acid reflux illness diet will often alter from individual to individual, depending on their dislikes and likes as well as their body's reactions to each food. You must make sure you are getting correct nutrition while following the diet plan. Check with your physician before making any health-related approach to life changes.

An acid reflux disease diet is used to control chronic acid reflux or GERD. Gastro esophageal Reflux disease or Acid reflux, heartburn, otherwise known as is a straightforward, yet sometimes uncomfortable disease.

What is an Acid Reflux Disease Diet

An acid reflux illness diet is a straightforward way to reduce or eliminate the painful symptoms alone or with any medication. Part of the Acid reflux illness diet is eating light in the evening in order to stop agony at night. Eating less food at every meal is commended also because there is less in the stomach to cause the opening of the esophagus while the food is being digested.

Beginning and Maintaining an Acid Reflux Disease Diet

Food Diary: in order to find out what foods are put up with - a person often begins an acid reflux disease diet by keeping a food diary. Keep a diary of what foods you have eaten and any symptoms that appear.

Foods Evaded

Foods that are known to fire signs of acid reflux are eliminated while on the acid reflux disease diet. Some of these foods are fatty foods, chocolate, and coffee depending how well they're put up with. Also peppermint and spearmint products, carbonated drinks and alcohol are eliminated on an acid reflux illness diet because of how they stomach reacts to these particular foods.

Acid Reflux Illness Diet Natural Angina Inhibitors

An acid reflux illness diet plan that includes chewing gum, helps in forestalling heartburn. Chewing gum produces spit, that has a really low acid level and is repetitively swallowed. This saliva reduces the acid levels in the stomach and deters heartburn. It has been recommended that patients chew gum while on the acid reflux disease diet.

Acid Reflux illness Diet Myths

There are some myths about the acid reflux illness diet that studies have just recently shown. The majority think that milk should be drunk before bed on an acid reflux disease diet. This is wrong because later in the night the digestion of milk can cause angina. Also avoiding acidic, hot, and spicy foods may not cause heartburn in some folks and so may be included in an acid reflux illness diet.

Heartburn during Pregnancy all too often seem to be inseparable. One of the causes of this is the increased hormone levels in a pregnant woman's body. This causes softening of the ligaments which normally keep the lower esophageal sphincter securely shut. Accordingly, stomach acids are essentially unimpeded in progressing up to the throat and esophagus. A further reason why pregnant women experience heartburn is because of added pressure in the stomach area caused by the development of the baby. Frequently this can push the contents of the stomach up to the esophagus.

There are various techniques by which a pregnant woman can minimize the misery caused by heartburn. Here are some strategies that should give some relief.

* Keep your head elevated at least six to eight inches while sleeping. You might find a specially designed acid reflux wedge pillow to be helpful in these situations. This gives gravity some help in keeping your stomach acids from climbing the esophagus.

* Avoid alcohol, which you ought to in any case for the health of your baby.

* Stay far from foods that are known to result in heartburn. This means chocolate, highly spiced foods, citrus, tomato based foods, as well as fatty and fried foods.

* Bend at the knees, not at the waist. This keeps pressure off the stomach.

* Don't slouch when seated. Sit in the upright position in a comfortable chair.

* Avoid tight clothes. Restricting the abdominal region will frequently result in heartburn.

* Do not go to sleep for at least three hours after a meal. You're less likely to experience nighttime heartburn.

* Drink lots of water, at least 8 to 10 glasses on a daily basis. But be careful that you don't drink while eating if you can possibly help it. This will lead the abdomen to expand too much and drive out the stomach acids.

* Eat your food in a leisurely manner.

* Eat smaller portions of food. Eating small meals at regular intervals through the day will lessen the pressure on the stomach.

* Don't gain an exorbitant amount of weight. All that surplus fat puts additional pressure on the stomach.

* Stop smoking. This isn't only bad for the baby, it is a frequent cause of heartburn.

* Do not drink beverages that are high in caffeine such as tea, coffee and cola.

Heartburn may not be a life threatening condition, but it can certainly cause you a lot of distress. If you want to learn more about the causes of heartburn and what you can do to stop it in its tracks, visit the Heartburn Relief site.

Heartburn happens when the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) becomes weak and stomach acid is forced up the esophagus thus causing burning sensation.

One of the usual reasons you suffer from heartburn is the food you eat. You should be aware that caffeinated drinks causes acid reflux and weakens the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

You should stay away from foods that are spicy, fatty and greasy. It takes longer for these foods to be digested and pressures the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

Tomatoes and tomato-based products like sauces and juices relax the LES (lower esophageal sphincter. It may be hard to do away with spaghetti and meatballs but there are other pasta dishes that you can enjoy without the red sauce.

Citrus fruits and juices like orange, lemon, lime and grapefruit relaxes the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

Milk and dairy products causes acid production because it takes longer time to digest and stays in the stomach for quite a while.

Beverages with alcohol content also relax the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) and increase production of acid in the stomach. You might want to get rid of the stock beer and liquor in your fridge to avoid temptation.

Don't be tempted to eat chocolate. Chocolate makes the LES (lower esophageal sphincter) relax.

Food may be the biggest contributor in causing heartburn but there are other factors such as cigarette or cigar smoking. The chemicals in the cigarette smoke weaken the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

Eating within 2 to 3 hours before bed time can also cause heartburn. When you are lying down with a full stomach, the stomach contents are pushed to the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

Wearing tight fitting clothes like girdles, corsets and belts squeezes the stomach and causes the food to reflux into the esophagus.

Doing sit-ups, crunches and other strenuous exercises strain the stomach and the LES (lower esophageal sphincter).

Another cause of heartburn is the medicines you take. Consult your doctor to make sure your medication does not trigger heartburn.

If you've had heartburn or acid reflux for any time at all, you've undoubtedly have heard of a lot of different treatment options. Here's some things to consider why your looking for the acid reflux cure that's right for you.

Just to be certain we're all on the same page, let's begin by remembering that acid reflux refers to stomach acid backing up into the esophagus. Since the esophagus wasn't meant to handle acid, it becomes irritated and inflamed. The typical pain of heartburn results.

Since you know what causes heartburn, you have some idea of what you can do to prevent it. One thing is to avoid anything that might trigger an episode. You can also try to minimize the degree of reflux as well as decreasing the acid and thereby decreasing irritation

One of the first things to do to cure acid reflux is to accept the fact that you probably have to change your diet. If you notice that eating a certain food consistently causes problems then you need to stay away from it, at least until you reflux has been cured for some time.

You can minimize the acid backup by eating small meals. This keeps the stomach pressure low and makes it less likely that the stomach content will reflux.

Another good way to minimize the reflux is to avoid lying down immediately after meals. When you're upright gravity helps prevent reflux. If you lie down with a full stomach, reflux happens easily.

This is why many people wake up and know the night suffering from heartburn. Using an acid reflux wedge pillow gives many people great relief.

You're probably well aware that you can use antacids to help with reflux. Liquids are generally more effective but tablets or capsules a more convenient. Either form works by neutralizing acid has already been released.

Newer medications, which are available in both over-the-counter and prescription strength, prevent acid from being released in the first place. Since they don't work very well once an episode of heartburn is started, they are usually taken regularly until the reflux is under control.

I hope this is given you some ideas about what you can do for your acid reflux.

by Gary Rogers

Indigestion or acid reflux is another word for Heartburn. A major symptom of heartburn is also called Gastro- esophageal reflux disease and also could become chronic. When heartburn occurs, you don't care what its called you just want it to go away, fast. Knowing Heartburn Foods To Avoid could save a person a lot of painful suffering.

That sharp burning sensation starts in the stomach and works its way up through the esophagus, throat, mouth and even jaw, leaving a sour or bitter taste in the mouth. Some symptoms may be a painful burning sensation in the chest which should not be confused with heart problems.

Heartburn is also known as acid reflux. The condition occurs when acid or contents of your stomach back up in the gullet or (esophagus). The pain occurs usually after a large meal, lying down, or bending over and can be accompanied with a bitter or sour taste in your mouth and throat.Heartburn is sometimes known as indigestion, sour stomach, acid regurgitation or pyrosis and can play havoc with sleeping, swallowing, burping or bloating, and in some cases chronic cough and choking episodes.

Heartburn occurs when the valve or gate between the esophagus and stomach closes too slowly after swallowing, allowing stomach acid to penetrate up through the esophagus. Learning Heartburn Foods To Avoid would make the stomach less acidic leading to less discomforts like bloating, nausea, belching, passing gas, heartburn, Indigestion. For a more permanent relief some knowledge of a lifestyle change are in order and you can do much to relieve your suffering with this.

Heartburn Foods To Avoid would start first and foremost of smaller amounts of food more often and more slowly. If stress triggers heartburn, rest before meals. Cutback on cucumbers, onions, cabbage and its family, garlic, alcohol, beans, coffee (decaffeinated and regular), tea, spices, dairy products, fatty fried foods, tomato and tomato based foods, colas. You can eliminate any of these and bring them back slowly into your diet to see which food bothers you. If painful symptoms show no marked improvement or recur frequently after meals, possibly vomiting, bloody stools, or even loss of appetite it would be wise to see your doctor

If you have acid reflux, finding relief could be as easy as changing some of your habits. Here are a few guidelines for stopping acid reflux from showing up.

-->

For those who suffer from acid reflux, they might be shocked to learn that getting relief could be as simple as making a few lifestyle changes. Keep reading for some tips on stopping acid reflux before it gets going.

A number of people experience acid reflux during the nighttime. But by simply avoiding evening snacking, you can more easily achieve relief from acid reflux. Don't snack for several hours leading up to bedtime. This can be difficult if you're inclined to be a late-night snacker. But remember that you will not have a restful night if you give in to temptation.

The time at which you eat is important, however what you eat is just as critical. For example, foods that are acidic like coffee, alcoholic beverages, citrus juices and tomato products all increase the probability of undergoing acid reflux. Excess production of stomach acids can be caused by even seemingly innocent food items. Foods that are highly spiced or high in fat will also activate an episode of acid reflux.

Limiting the quantity of food you eat is another significant factor in preventing acid reflux symptoms. This consists of limiting your portion sizes at each meal. If your stomach is overstuffed, food is forced back into the esophagus. This thoroughly exacerbates the fiery feeling in your chest since it has soaked up some of the stomach acids.

If excess weight is a problem for you, think about dropping some of the extra pounds. When they do, many individuals discover their acid reflux symptoms are reduced. Normally they experience lowered pressure on the stomach, which leaves more room for the digestion process. Accordingly it is not quite as likely that it will be brought back up the esophagus.

Sometimes you may surrender to temptation and eat too much or choose the wrong foods. If that occurs, it's vital that you stand or sit straight up and steer clear of lying down. This will help to keep the food in your stomach, away from your esophagus, and speed up the digestion process. When you do lie down, make sure to keep your head elevated, either by propping up your mattress or utilizing an special wedge pillow for acid reflux.

It is not just those who are heavy who must make some lifestyle changes to avoid acid reflux. Smokers are also at higher risk of suffering from this condition. The esophagus muscles of those who smoke aren't as efficient as they should be. Consequently they are less able to prevent the undigested food in your stomach from making its way back up. Additionally, the stomach acid of smokers is more toxic because of the presence of chemicals. Every time you take a puff on a cigarette, you raise your risk of going through acid reflux symptoms.

Keep in mind that modifications to your lifestyle might not be the fix for severe acid reflux. Some will still require a visit to their physician before they find any relief.

Almost everyone gets a bad case of acid reflux at one time or another. Some people, however, never seem to be able to get rid of it. Learn more about the symptoms, prevention and treatment of this painful condition at Heartburn Relief.

These days, heartburn is a complaint more commonly known by sufferers as acid reflux. This complaint affects the food pathways or digestive tract but is often called other names. The problem arises from an upset in our stomachs digestive fluid (hydrochloric acid). The disorder gives you a burning sensation in your chest near the heart and stomach, when the acid wants to return up the digestive tract.

When we eat and swallow our food it is allowed into the stomach area to be digested by the esophageal sphincter valve which should then close back up in order to stop the hydrochloric acid from escaping. The problems start when for some reason this valve does not shut and the stomachs digestive juices are allowed to flow back up (acid reflux) causing the feeling of heartburn. This condition is also known as GERD which is the shortened version of the correct medical name: gastroesophageal reflux disorder. At the moment it is considered that a poor diet is the underlying reason for the acid reflux problem but not the main cause of the condition, overeating could also add to the problem and cause unnecessary stress on the stomach and its ability to process food.

Eating large amounts of food at any meal can put a lot of pressure on your abdominal walls, the release of this pressure results in the stomach acids trying to flow back up the digestive tract. Since this valve protects your esophagus from your stomach acid, you need to take care this valve does not allow digested acidic food to pass back into the asophagus. To help with this condition, adjustments need to be made with regards to the size of meals consumed, which need to be smaller but more frequent. This situation can be a problem for the health of the body as the stomach, esophagus and mouth all need to be in good working order.this is because the stomach is not only responsible for breaking down our food but also for preparing this food to be converted to specific nutrients that every person needs.

While an immediate solution may be to use the well advertised acid calming drugs available they are not designed for long term usage, however, these can interrupt natural body processes and cause other health problems. It may take a while but the best solution is to make adjustments to your drinking and eating habits which may have caused the acid reflux condition, the idea is not to overload your stomach, which will give it time to recover. It may take a while but if the number of times you experience heartburn reduces, you may be able to enjoy some of the foods you stopped eating; all the while remaining conscious of the need to take things slowly and not place stress on your stomach again.

While eating is probably the largest factor in acid reflux disorder, other substances can also contribute; a few of these are listed below:

Smoking, Allergic reactions to certain types of food, Medication, Alcohol, Taking a nap after eating

All this comes down to a lifestyle change which ultimately only you can control, this is all possible if you want the heartburn problem to ease. Determination on your part to reduce the number of episodes of acid reflux is all that is required. It really is a decision only you can make!

If you have acid reflux you don't necessarily have to use drugs to treat it. There are many natural acid reflux treatments available that can give you relief without the risk of side effects that using drugs presents. Here's some to try.

Although natural acid reflux treatments are usually safe you still need to use some common sense if you try them. Also, you should let your doctor know what you're doing, especially if you're taking medications for other problems. Some herbal treatment and supplements interfere with some prescription medicines.

Burdock is a detoxifying compound that also helps treat acid reflux. It appears to help both the liver and kidneys clear toxins as well as aiding in the digestion process. If you want to try this, take it with meals want to twice a day or follow the directions on the supplement you buy. In addition to burdock, you could take a celery seed which is also a recognized detoxifying herb.

Saffron is a spice made from crocus flowers. Most people think of it as a flavoring for rice, but it also has medicinal uses. It helps alleviate heartburn, apparently by protecting the G.I. tract. Though it's available in capsule form, why not cook with it to enjoy it savory flavor?

You may have heard of Devils claw as a supplement that reduces the risk of developing cancer. Although it is often taken for that reason it also is effective in relieving symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.

There are many other natural acid reflux treatments you can try. Since we're all different we respond differently to various treatments. However if you stay with it it's entirely likely that you'll find a natural treatment combination that works well for you.

Nighttime Heartburn: Don't Let it Keep You Up

by John Baker

While heartburn can attack at any point during the day, if it takes place in the night, it's particularly agonizing and bothersome. Many individuals who are confirmed to have acid reflux or heartburn are afflicted with nighttime heartburn. This only makes sense as lying down might make it easy for undigested food to move back up. For many, the lack of sleep is more harmful to their well being and mental health in the end than the actual heartburn.

One approach to help avoid nighttime heartburn is realizing at what time it's alright to get into bed. You need your tummy to be as empty as possible before laying down. The latest you are supposed to have a meal is several hours before the time when you go to bed. This way you won't have an excessive amount of digestive acid within your stomach. Additionally, you should pass up alcoholic drinks during this time of night, or possibly give it up entirely. Lots of individuals enjoy having a nightcap to make them sleepy, yet you won't be doing much snoozing when nighttime heartburn strikes.

Another situation to avoid is wearing body-hugging clothing to bed. It might press on your body and worsen your problem. You might also choose to keep your covers loose if they tend to put pressure on you. Moreover, never sleep on your stomach if you can possibly avoid it. If you are inclined to turn over in your sleep, you might have to affix a pebble on the front of your night clothes to wake you up so you can get back into the appropriate position.

Lots of individuals get a lot of relief from heartburn during the night by stacking their pillows. This will help to guarantee that their shoulders, neck and head are elevated, and it prevents the acids in the stomach from going toward your throat. Nevertheless, if you shift around a great deal while sleeping, then you'll slide off of this incline. To deal with this, acquire a special acid reflux cushion or wedge-shaped foam cushion to help you remain in place.

There are quite a few antacids that you can use when heartburn awakens you in the middle of the night. Along with non-prescription remedies in the form of liquids, pills or tablets, there are also medicines prescribed by a doctor. It's generally okay to experiment with a non-prescription antacid for a week or so. But if you are continuing to suffer from nighttime heartburn no less than twice a week, you really ought to go to see your doctor. Acid reflux and heartburn aren't things that disappear by themselves.

If you're expecting a baby, on the other hand, you don't want to use heartburn medicine needlessly. Many drugs, even non-prescription products, could harm your baby. You need to speak to your physician about the most effective technique to safely handle your situation.

INTRODUCTION: Heartburn is a digestive problem that happens when stomach acid comes into contact with the lining of the esophagus, producing irritation. It has nothing to do with the heart though the irritation may be confused with heart pain and vice versa and is the most frequent symptom of a condition known as gastroesophageal reflux or acid reflux. It is often called acid indigestion and usually happens after meals and is a daily occurrence for approximately 10% of Americans and as much as 50% of pregnant women.

SYMPTOMS: Signs of acid indigestion and a heart attack may feel the same. One of the most common symptoms is spitting up. Heartburn symptoms are just flat-out uncomfortable and very painful. However, many people will only experience the milder signs. Pay attention and treat it, particularly if you feel symptoms often.

The good news is that making changes to certain habits will go a long way to stopping acid indigestion and other symptoms of GERD.

Heartburn is usually simple to diagnose from the symptoms you describe to your Physician. If there are any questions about the diagnosis, you may take the following tests to check for ulcers or other problems that might create your signs: barium swallow x-ray study of the esophagus, complete upper GI (gastrointestinal) barium x-ray study of the esophagus, stomach, and upper intestine endoscopy: a procedure in which a thin flexible tube with a tiny camera is put in your mouth and down into your stomach so your Doctor can see your esophagus and stomach.

To help decrease the signs you can try not to put a lot of pressure on the sphincter muscle. Seek emergency treatment if the following occurs with the heartburn and do not go away within fifteen minutes of treatment: shortness of breath; sweating; weakness; or arm, back, or chest pain.

FOODS: To minimize attacks, a sufferer may find benefit in avoidance of certain foods that relax the opening between the stomach and esophagus, such as chocolate, peppermint, and chamomile tea shortly before bedtime.

Restricting diet is extremely important, since 90-95% of sufferers of heartburn or esophageal problems can link their symptoms to certain foods. If the person notices that certain foods seem to make the condition worse, or more frequent, they would be better served to stay away from them, or at least talk to their Physician about products that can help decrease the amount of stomach acid that can create acid reflux.

CONCLUSION: Heartburn normally is due to gastroesophageal reflux disease (aka GERD), the rise of stomach acid back up into the esophagus. Acid indigestion and reflux are very common, with 10 percent of the population experiencing these signs at least once a week and may be brought on or worsened by pregnancy and by various medications.

It is common condition, and an occasional episode is usually nothing to worry about. Relief in the form of milk may be effective and drinking a small quantity of milk regularly over a period of time can begin to heal the effects as it washes acid back into the stomach.

A simple and relatively harmless way to treat a one time heartburn is to drink a solution of a small amount of Sodium bicarbonate mixed with water, which quickly neutralizes the acid that causes the pain.

Chewing gum can provide short-term relief by stimulating the production of saliva, which dilutes and flushes out stomach acid. When heartburn occurs frequently, however, or becomes severe, you should consult your doctor.

Common Symptoms of Acid Reflux Disease, Also Known as GERD

by Frank Robson

You have just stuffed yourself at this wonderful meal. Just could not resist one more helping of the wonderful beef dish with the rich cream sauce.

After such a delicious meal, you couldn't help but curl up in your most comfortable position on the couch and watch your favorite television show. Naturally, there were peanuts available to snack on, sweet chocolate to satisfy your sugary cravings with, and a glass of fine wine to sip at your leisure.

Welcome to Signs of Acid Reflux

Even a situation as seemingly perfect as the one described above can be ruined by chest discomfort. A sour tasting fluid filled with the flavors of all the foods that you've been digesting can surge up past your breastbone and fill up your throat. Despite your desire to vomit out such a terrible mixture, it decides to stay right there causing extreme discomfort.

Some people also experience further unpleasant sensations when dizziness sets in as a result of a reaction by the Vagus nerve to stomach problems. All these symptoms are part of the body's typical reaction to acid reflux.

Ignoring the symptoms mentioned can further lead to feeling like there is food stuck inside your throat. Another feeling sometimes described by people is that of food not traveling comfortably down the food pipe.

Such an experience is commonly associated with Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) or acid reflux.

Turns out that this acid reflux disease has nothing to do with genetic disposition, age, nationality, race and other classifying factors, but has everything to do with your attitude towards the quality of your eating, nutrition, and health. A child of two can get this disease, so can a teenager, and so can a senior in the family. While a very young child getting an acid reflux problem may be related to physiological development concerns, for everyone else , it is almost a disease brought on by overindulgence , and abuse of your digestive system.

INTRODUCTION: Acid reflux is a condition where gastric juices containing acid travel back from the stomach into the esophagus (gullet or swallowing tube). More commonly found among adults, yet, children as well as infants, can be likewise affected.

It is most often known by its symptom of "heartburn" which reportedly affects 1 out of every 10 adults in the United States and is a very serious and common problem in the world today. In severe cases, this can be very bothersome. It is treatable and you should ask your physician what treatments are available and right for you.

GERD: Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), or commonly known as acid reflux, is a chronic condition wherein the esophagus gets inflamed and irritated due to the stomach's acidic contents that backflow towards the esophagus passing from the lower esophageal sphincter. It is a severe version of reflux that often causes pain, vomiting and poor weight gain.

HEARTBURN: The name of the ailment given to a burning discomfort in the chest, just behind the breastbone. It is a symptom of another digestive disorder, and not a disorder by itself. Following heartburn, other reported signs are regurgitation, bitterness within the mouth, hoarseness, wheezing, dry cough, and throat tightness as if a hunk of food is entrapped. A heartburn every now and then does not necessarily mean one has GERD.

SYMPTOMS: Signs of acid reflux include: Heartburn (a burning feeling rising from the stomach or lower chest up towards the neck) and can be greatly relieved or prevented by lifestyle and dietary changes as well as the use of herbs known to promote healthy digestion.

TREATMENT: Treatment is the next step, but recognize that proper treatment can really only be utilized once a definitive diagnosis has been made. Moreover, after the esophagus has healed and treatment is ceased, the injury will return in the majority of patients within a few months. You may need to experiment with doses and drugs to find the right solution for your heartburn and GERD.

Drug treatment is often only needed for a short time although it may have to be repeated since some symptoms may re-occur. NEXIUM is prescribed for the treatment of frequent, persistent heartburn symptoms. But if these symptoms occur two or more days a week despite treatment and change in diet, you may have (GERD) also known as Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease.

CONCLUSION: Acid reflux is produce by food and stomach acid coming back up from your stomach and entering your esophagus and is usually characterized by a burning sensation in the stomach and chest region. It is a medical ailment, with heartburn as a possible symptom of that ailment. You should also realize that if it remains untreated for too long, you could be facing a lifetime of dealing with it. The bottom line is that finding the correct treatment is mostly about knowing your body and your symptoms.

Home Remedy for Heartburn

Many sufferers of heartburn look for a home remedy for heartburn instead of using drugs or medications that may irritate their stomach and add to the problem. Heartburn is a burning sensation in the esophagus as some of the stomach juices are refluxed into the esophagus. This condition can be slight or very intense and normally occurs after eating food. Even if you cannot get rid of your heartburn entirely you can treat the symptoms of heartburn.

Heartburn can be triggered by specific foods and the easiest way to treat heartburn related to food is by simply avoiding those foods that may irritate or cause heartburn. You also can attempt to decrease the portion sizes of those foods that may irritate your heartburn. Many individuals experience heartburn when they are lying down and you may need to wait a few hours after eating before you go to bed to stop this.

Another easy fix for the heartburn you get from lying down after you eat. Sometimes if the heartburn is not real serious you can raise the head of the bed with blocks by 3 to 4 inches. Another option is the wedge pillow to do the same thing by getting the top of your body higher than your stomach. This will help to keep the acids down in the stomach where they belong.

Many people use ginger root as home remedy for heartburn. One of the properties of ginger is its ability to absorb excessive acids in the stomach as well as its calming effects. This is useful as stress can be a major factor in contributing to heartburn. Certain herbs such as goldenseal and gentian root are also helpful to alleviate heartburn.

Stress can also be a major cause of heartburn and indigestion and may just be the underlying cause of most cases. It will not heart to learn about The Best Stress Reduction Techniques on The Effects of Stress on the Body.

Slippery elm can soothe a sore throat that is a symptom of heartburn. Slippery elm contains mucilage, which swells when in contact with water. It is thought that this mucilage coats the esophagus to treat your throat irritation. This herb is frequently found in throat lozenges. It should be noted that no studies have been conducted linking slippery elm to heartburn.

One home remedy for heartburn that seems counterintuitive, yet is very effective, is to drink a mixture of apple cider vinegar and water. Simple stir up to 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar into a glass of warm water and drink it slowly. It may burn slightly, but the relief should be nearly immediate for most people.

Heartburn can be aggravated by drinking carbonated or fizzy beverages. These types of drinks can increase the pressure in your stomach, add to the bloated feeling and eventually cause the stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus. Drinks such as cola can actually harm the stomach lining and cause other problems.

Certain medications can cause heartburn. Your pharmacist can identify which prescription medicines can irritate your stomach and assist you and your doctor in managing the medications. Keep in mind that eating too late at night is not a good idea. Your stomach needs time to digest food and ideally, you should stop eating at least two hours before heading off to bed.
