The fastest way to lose weight, boost your immune system against disease, and increase your energy level is to eat foods that are more nutrient rich. A healthier lifestyle is a great thing for many people, but the rate of heartburn continues to rise as well. This is because there are many nutritious foods that cause heartburn in some people.

Heartburn is the contents of your stomach coming back up through your chest and throat. Citrus fruits are highly acidic and therefore are not going to feel all that pleasant coming up that way. If you are eating more oranges or grapefruit for the vitamin C, try not to eat it on an empty stomach. Orange juice can also cause heartburn and should not be consumed on an empty stomach. If you want to include citrus produce in your diet, just pay attention to the time of day that you eat them and what you eat them with. Eating acidic foods in the morning is better than later in the day.

A highly acidic food that may not be as obvious as a culprit when it comes to foods that cause heartburn is tomatoes. They are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that are beneficial to your body, but if you are experiencing heartburn you may want to check if they are not part of the problem. Tomatoes prepared in sauces on pizza or any Italian dishes are some of the worst offenders. Uncooked tomatoes may not be as bad on some as the cooking and processing does on others.

It is common for those conscious of nutrition to use fresh onion and garlic to sauté or make stir fry flavorful, but these foods will increase the chances of heartburn for many.

You will need to consider what you are drinking. Carbonated drinks are a very common factor in causing heartburn, even if you are drinking the diet varieties with no calories.  Most all carbonated sodas are very high in acid content. There are plenty of other lo-cal non-carbonated drinks available that may be more suitable for heartburn sufferers.

One common drink that may contribute to heartburn is coffee. It is the coffee itself not what you put in it, so cutting back on sugar is not going to help much. If you believe this is part of your heartburn problem, consider cutting back the amount you drink and taking in food along with it.

Eating for nutrition rather than pleasure will take your body to peak performance and make you feel more energetic and alive. Just make sure to pinpoint the exact foods that cause heartburn for your individual body so that you do not create a new problem along the way to healthy living. Remember, what induces heartburn in one person may do absolutely nothing for someone else.
