It is funny the way in which the simplest of things can make a dramatic change in your life. I used to suffer with lots of acid reflux and heartburn. Often it felt like i had a pile in my chest that was on fire.

Obviously I had gone through the medical route and had been prescribed the usual mixture of antacid tablets and liquids and proton pump inhibitors. I had approximately $20 worth of medication on my shelf ready to use.

Then as I was skimming the web I stumbled upon the alkaline nature of lemons. To me this sounded ridiculous ; lemons are acidic and could not most likely help. What I discovered was that lemons leave behind an alkaline residue in the body that his highly advantageous to those subjected to angina and acid reflux.

So I started filling up a jug of water and added sliced, fresh, un-waxed lemons to the water to infuse throughout the day. This I drank during the day together with lemon juice in hot water in the evenings.

The first thing that I spotted was how refreshed I felt first thing in the morning if I drank this fresh lemon water first thing, instead of my common coffee or tea. At night, particularly in hot water, it was also far more relaxing as an end drink. I noticed my angina started to ease, the agony in my chest started to ease and my stomach sometimes started to feel much better. Obviously there were other participatory elements including cutting back on coffee and tea and making other diet changes; yet the refreshing and healing effect of lemon water was remarkable.

I did tell the specialist doctor about lemon juice and its alkalizing effect on the body; she had no idea and just assumed that lemons were acidic, as did I.

So now I still have my medications on the shelf ; all untouched. I no longer take anything. Glaringly one must go to their own medical pro first before stopping prescribed medications and one should get advice before making any major dietary change. For me though I have stopped purchasing antacids and stomach medicine and now buy bags of fresh, un-waxed lemons.

Nature is a really noteworthy thing; it has available all that one could ever need for a healthy way of life.
